Midnight at Butcher Block Acoustics

Butcher Block Acoustics "Rigidracks" and platforms use only Maple and Walnut in their products. These are called "tone woods" for good reason. And as beautiful as they are in their natural finishes, this being high end audio and video, sometimes you just need...black.

For BBA finding a way to properly stain maple was a 2 year project. You don't want an impermeable surface coat like a paint on the maple, which would impair its tonal properties. BBA found a craftsman who had developed a special catalyzed finishing technique allowing the maple to take the stain, but which still allows the wood to breathe, and therefore to sound the way it is supposed to sound. All staining is done by hand in a multistep process, so adds some cost and 2 weeks or so to any rack or platform order. 

The same technique can be used with colors as well, so if you NEED a Royal Blue or a Ferrari Red rack, or maybe a white rack or platform, they can provide it to you for approximately the same price as their "Midnight" series black racks and platforms.
